Life Safety Services – Fire Safety Essentials

Hospital Bed Races – A FUNdrasing Event
Northern Lights Health Foundation was back for their 5th annual fun and exciting Hospital Bed “fund-racing” event. The winners, Family Christian Center Young Adults, took home the coveted “Golden Bedpan” Trophy and of course, bragging rights! Even though there is just 1 winner, each team contributes to raising awareness and funds for Northern Lights Health Foundation. The event raised an amazing $75,000!
CP Services partnered with our friends at CNOOC to provide the “Fuel Station” (Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Drinks and Popcorn to the participants and fans). Looking forward to helping out again next year.

Blair Gamble
Keep learning, keep succeeding.
Blair is one of the long standing employees of CP Services and what a blessing he is to the company! Previous to that, he was in the Canadian Armed Forces and even went to school to become a Police Officer. As he was doing the training, he realized that it wasn’t for him so he tried exploring other career path. His brother was a carpenter for CP Services and recommended that he should try out working in the field. An opportunity opened up and he was able to secure a job and started as a utility operator.
Being new to the industry, he enjoyed having access and experience site specific tasks. It made him understand the value of different trades and how it keeps the site running. Seeing how the techs work on all the machinery, being hands on in solving problems when it arise and being able to fix it gave him motivation to pursue his trade. Blair proved himself and stood out as one of the best workers of the company. From having very little experience in trades, he was able to advance into being a site foreman on the operations side. According to Jeff, his supervisor, “You can always count on Blair, whether it’s going to the extra mile on a job or helping in other departments. Seeing Blair progress his career from operating a Tank Farm to switching into a maintenance role fixing the Tank Farm is a great achievement for him and CP is very proud to be part of his journey.” His supervisor and coworkers couldn’t be any happier to be working alongside him.
As years passed by, he felt like he wanted to do more. He decided to put himself to an industrial mechanics school. It was a difficult decision as he is leaving a good position while ensuring to support his family while studying. CP Services supported his decision to leave the company to pursue another path. After studying, he came back as a Millwright Apprentice and is now currently working at one of the biggest projects the company has.
Blair is an exceptional worker, and even more as a father. On his time off, he will spend most of his time with his 2 sons Cashius and Tyrion. He mentioned his kids keep him busy on his day off – especially Tyrion, the younger one! He ensures that they do family activities and spend as much time with each other before going back to work again. For Blair, his family is what keeps him motivated to always learn new things and grow in his career.
Kat Paras
Kat joined CP Services back in June 12, 2016 as a clerk with CNOOC Long Lake Site which is one of the big projects for CP Services. Her first role was mostly data entry for payroll and doing administrative task. During the pre pandemic years, Kat used to travel to Anzac from Edmonton for her 2 weeks on 2 weeks off shift. Her hard work and determination did not go unnoticed. Having a background with Industrial Engineering, Kat has proven herself to be one of the most capable, and effective employee at CP Services. The company supported her journey and gave her the right tools and training to advance in her career. In 2019, she started training for payroll. She assisted with invoicing, payables, and other payroll related task. Because of these new tasks, she learned how to navigate through the company’s finance department. Currently, Kat is now handling the Cost Control department. Making sure every dollar that goes in and out is accounted for, and helping in making decisions for the company’s well being.
Kat is one of the senior staff at the CP Services office. She has seen how the company grew and experienced it’s resilience over uncontrollable circumstances. During the pandemic, the company has decided to send office staff home and work from there. “I really enjoy my job especially now that we work from home! We have meetings every morning. Even though we are working remotely, we are still connected with each other thanks to advanced technology!”. Office staff no longer works on 2 weeks on 2 weeks of shift. Kat mentioned she misses her 2 weeks off but still would prefer working from home regardless of the schedule. “When the company decided to have the office staff to work from home, we finally were able to have a dog we’ve been longing for”. Kat finally got the best officemate for her. A cute and very bubbly English Bulldog named Bowser!
“I am very happy to be given this opportunity. I wouldn’t have it any other way!”.

The Centre of Hope BBQ
Spreading joy with entertainment and food
“Somewhere along the way, we must learn that there is nothing greater than to do something for others.” – Martin Luther King Jr. CP Builders (our internal community ambassador team) with the help of Tammy O’Quinn Reid brought food and live entertainment to The Centre of Hope (COH) in Fort McMurray for a barbeque event on June 6, 2019. CP Builder volunteers cooked over 200 hot dogs and hamburgers on CP’s barbeque trailer and provided refreshments for the homeless. During the barbeque, Tammy O’Quinn Reid and CP’s own Duane St. Croix provided live entertainment and even had a few people join in on the microphone.
“It was one of the best days I’ve had in almost 7 years of working at The Centre of Hope,” says Linda Haggarty, COH Team Lead. “Food and music were amazing; it was heart warming, emotional, and so great to see so many of the COH family coming together and having fun dancing and laughing.”
“It was truly something special to see all of the smiling faces and what a blessing to work for a company who has the means to provide an event like this for the people who live within our community that need an extra helping hand,” says CP Fleet/Logistics Coordinator Janelle Ritchie. The barbeque couldn’t have been more successful with the beautiful weather and delicious food.
“We’re so blessed to be part of our patrons’ lives,” says Linda. “Thank you for bringing such joy to all of us.”

The gift of a Golden Arrow
Getting there is half the fun, as anyone who’s ever competed on a high-school sports team will tell you. It’s why CP Services wanted to help the kids at Bill Woodward School make just as many memories off the court as on. “He called and said, ‘It’s booked and we’re covering it,’” recalls Bill Woodward School Athletic Director Tessa Dagenais of her chat with CP’s CEO Dave Czibere, who donated a Golden Arrow school bus to take the senior boys and girls volleyball teams to their recent tournament in Westlock.
“Dave and CP always support our school and we are so grateful,” Tessa says. “Transportation is expensive, and this generous donation of the bus saved the families a lot of money.”
The kids were elated to be competing in their first out-of-town tournament of the season. Even more special was the fact that both teams were travelling together for the very first time. The four-hour road trip was filled with laughter and excitement as the kids anticipated an action-packed tournament.
The tournament was a huge success for both teams: the girls took home first-place medals and the boys finished in the top four.
“The players had so much fun on the bus travelling together, and still to this day, talk about the memories they made on the trip,” Tessa says. “Thank you very much, Dave Czibere, for organizing and covering the transportation for our two teams. We can’t thank you enough.”

Tiny Tots
A Tiny Tots’ Christmas Wish Come True!
The CP Services team was delighted to have participated in the 2nd annual Festival of Trees by Willow Lake Tiny Tots Day Care (WLTT) during the Christmas in Anzac fundraiser. WLTT is a non-profit organization that facilitates programs and activities for children in the Anzac community and surrounding areas.
“The entire event was a wonderful weekend that brought families together in the community for lots of fun in support of our local organizations,” says Janelle Ritchie, CP Services fleets and logistics coordinator.
Christmas in Anzac took place at the Anzac Recreation Centre from December 7-9. In addition to the Festival of Trees, the weekend event featured an ugly sweater family skate, breakfast with Santa, and Christmas market and crafts. Members of CP Services worked hard decorating a beautiful Christmas tree, which was then donated to the fundraiser along with an assortment of toys.
A community dinner organized by Anzac Family Community Support Society (AFCSS) capped the weekend. A delicious turkey meal was provided by the local Zee Bar and each child received a gift from Santa corresponding to the five domains of early childhood development. All funds raised this year are going toward a splash pad in Anzac to encourage water play and to enhance kids’ balance, strength, coordination, and communication and social skills.
We want to thank Brandt Tractor and Finning for the toy donations that helped make our tree even more festive. We also want to recognize Lisa, Mandy, Meryl, Janelle and Jon for acting as such great community ambassadors on behalf of CP.
